Dante was still trying to get into the portal, fuming that he was so close and yet so far. He had managed to briefly reach right in, only to have Jadis sick her dogs on him. That had certainly not been expected, and the familiars gave the sisters the mere seconds they needed. Dante was now barking orders at the others, dreading the call he was about to have to make.

"I feel for you, man," said Tomas. "I would not want to be the one to call Silas and let him know the shit his little witch just pulled."

Dante had no words, so he chose not to even acknowledge the comment. He was still too busy attempting to open the portal. Apparently, Jadis is a very quick learner, he thought. All this time, she had been studying him just as much as he had been studying her. She had used his own binding spell, turning it on him at the entrance of the portal. Just as he had done to her, binding her stateroom door shut.

"Not to interrupt," said Paxil, "maybe you should make a call to Bain? He might be able to help; he’s certainly had his fair share of run-ins with her."

As worked up as Dante was, he knew that what Paxil said made sense. He also knew that the longer he waited, the more danger the Jadis, Skye and Ivory were in. If anything happened to even one of their girls, it would likely be the death of them. He decided he couldn’t hesitate any longer, and he made the call.
